Gather tools and materials
Gather these and place in your workspace
Required
- Better DPad Fix for RGB30
- Philips screwdriver, medium size (PH1)
- Guitar pick, credit card, or other thin prying tool
Optional, but recommended
- Philips screwdriver, small size (PH00)
- Easy-to-remove tape like masking tape
- Extra guitar pick, credit card, or other thin prying tool
Additionally, I recommend keeping three small cups for screws and laying down a soft towel or shirt to protect the device screen.

Tape buttons
I recommend taping the buttons on the device to keep them in place. Otherwise, reassembly can be a real pain.
- Place tape over the Start and Select buttons on the front of the device

- Place tape over the Power, Volume, and Shoulder button on the top of the device.

Open shell
- Unscrew the four screws on the back of the device

- Use your pick to separate the shell halves, starting at the bottom of the device.
- There are clips holding the two halves together, so your pick allows you to unclip these. Simply pulling the halves will not do this.
- Move the clip along the split. You should hear small pops when the clips become undone.
- You may find it easier to continue past the curve at the bottom corner by using your second pick.
- Use the first pick to make a gap for the second pick
- Insert the second pick into the gap
- Use the second pick to continue separating the shell

- Carefully open up the shell. Make sure to not pull on wires that are connected between the back shell and the circuit board.

Remove circuit board & joysticks
- Before proceeding, take a moment to visually note the pieces that we will need to disconnect.
- Speaker wires
- Battery wires
- Antenna cable
- Joystick cables
- Display cable

- Unplug the speaker connectors. Pull on the plastic of the connector, not the wire. Be gentle and do not torque the connector.

- Remove the power cables

- Remove the antenna cable. It may help to use a pick or thin tool, but you can also use your fingernail. Make sure to pull straight off the board so as to not bend the interface.

- Next, we’re going to remove the joysticks. If you do not have have a small screwdriver, I would recommend against trying to unscrew the joysticks so you do not strip the screws. In this case, you will need to maneuver the circuit board around the joysticks. I recommend unscrewing the joysticks because this can be tough and may end up damaging your joysticks’ cables.
