1.5H Hex driver/Allen key or T6 Torx driver
Small Philips driver (I use a PH00)
Tweezers (optional but helps)
You need to peel up a sticker to unplug the fan before removing the fan plate
Removing the stock buttons can be difficult
Unscrew the 4 screws in the back of the console.

Pivot out the back shell, starting with the top edge.

If you are not confident in being able to remove these connectors, you can skip this step. just be careful when handling the back panel.

Before removing the black plate that holds the fan, you need to unplug the fan.
Peel back this part of the sticker on the plate.
Unplug the two mini connectors. Using tweezers may help.

Unscrew the 5 fan plate screws.

Carefully pull out the black fan plate. Try to start by unseating the fan. It can help to start prying near the R button cluster.
R2/L2 should come out easily

R1/L1 will be captured by the R2/L2 switch plunger. There are two approaches to get past this.
Straightforward but a headache: Remove the screws holding in the circuit boards and move them out of the way.
